What you need to know
Removing outlines can leave a keyboard user unable to see where they are. Focus styling is part of the interface, not a visual defect, and should remain obvious against every surface.
How to apply it
Use :focus-visible to show a strong outline when keyboard focus is used, preserve a visible offset, and test links on both light and dark backgrounds. Include focus for custom widgets too.
Common mistake to avoid
Do not set outline: none without an equally visible replacement. Check contrast and ensure the indicator is not clipped by overflow.
